Are you doing a panel-off repaint, or do they somehow paint with the panels on?

If you're asking me, he is removing the hood, deck lid, headlight doors, rear fascia, and all the aero trim plus mirrors and body side molding, drip rails and quarter window backside trim filler pieces.  The windshield will be removed and a new one installed.  Everything removed will be painted.

Except the windshield, hopefully.

More or less, I was asking you, but couldn't find an appropriate thread, and two other people are also getting their Fieros painted.

I am probably doing mine wrong, removing and preping pieces as I can and deciding if I am having someone else paint them or try my best and see how it goes....

My sunroof and seal are also coming out for 2 reasons.  There is a small spot about 1/2 inch long on the edge that's starting to delaminate.  That has to be repaired.  Also, the paint should not terminate on an edge and it needs to go completely underneath any trim in order to present a continuous finish and not peel.

I have confidence that it will look like a factory paint job when he's finished.

Interesting.  For some reason, I had thought that all the body paint had to be sanded off.

Nice to see progress pics.

If there are no spider cracks, such as you would get on the fascias if they had been bumped and if the existing painted surface is bonded well, the only thing that needs to be done is to rough sand it then shoot it with a primer that will bond.  I believe he said he also used an etching primer to enhance the bond.  There were some areas on the rear fascia that had spider cracks from me getting a light rear end bump.  MAACO didn't sand down to the finish when they repainted and the cracks eventually came back through.  He took care of those cracks this time.  :)

It seems to be down to the wire on this being completed in time for the big trip.  There aren't weeks left for the paint to cure.

Yes.  I texted him this morning and asked if it would be ready for me to pick up no later than Thursday morning.  He said he'd check with his partner this afternoon and let me know.  I haven't heard anything, yet.

His booth was under construction when I delivered the car.  I hope he has baking lights to cure the paint.
