Temp gauge wiring wrap
« on: September 11, 2019, 08:35:20 pm »
I did not like the look of the old wrap on the temp gauge wiring

So I replaced it

When I pulled the plug to install this wrap, it was dissappointing to see this

Keep in mind that this had been replaced only a few thousand miles ago with a new plug

So the longevity was not that great

But the connector is very close to the exhaust.

So, I made sure that the new wrap extends to cover the connector..

I believe that this heat shield will help the wiring, and hopefully be more visually appealing.  The connector should be able to withstand coolant temps, but hopefully the wrap will not make things worse by containing the heat.

There is supposed to be a sheet metal shield between the sensor and exhaust manifold.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I have removed the heat wrap.  There is a possibility that the heat was being trapped in the wrap, causing reading issues.  Either way, we had a string of faulty temp sensors.

The sheet metal shield originally mounted with the stock ignition coil.  It probably was removed when you went to the coilpack.  The shield cups underneath the sensor and harness end, protecting it from the heat from the end of the exhaust manifold.

That shield is now in place.

It seemed that heat was being trapped by the wrap, so the wrap was removed.  No real change.

Time is getting tight.  Do you have a trailer?  Tow vehicle?
