Ground wire insulation?
« on: October 01, 2019, 06:56:59 am »
Is there any purpose for having plastic wire loom...on a ground wire???

3 of my vehicles have this.  Going from the firewall to the hood.

Looks, or to prevent chafing.

One of those ground wires is silver, one is brass-colored, and one is copper-colored.  Gotta love consistency.

Yeah, it is possible that the ground wire would hit the plastic cover over the intake.  The ground wires break next to the eyelet, though.

Insulation prevents fraying and corrosion of the strands.  In some cases it reduces the possibility  of  rubbing nearby wires or parts to create a bad circuit.

Other than the two things to which it's connected, there is insulation on the firewall, the plastic cover on the intake, and insulation under the hood.  The ground strap usually fails due to too many bends

Insulation coatings on the wire help to strengthen it in those bends.

It breaks past the loom.
