Coughing intake
« on: November 03, 2019, 07:00:12 pm »
My 86 GT is coughing through the intake when I am cruising at approximately 40 mph. Please say this is not a valve adjustment issue.

"this is not a valve adjustment issue"

Well, what RPM are you running at that speed?

Is this a new development?  Did anything precipitate this?

Could be timing, or a fuel problem. A recording of the sound might be helpful.

I want to say rpm’s are around 2000. Everything is a new development for me. I have put only 100 miles on the motor since completing repairs.

Does it sound like a singer sewing machine?

The noise sounds like a coughing with a doink sound.

Check your plug wire routing again to be sure they're in the correct firing order.  Sounds as if it's firing when it's on the intake stroke.

2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Coughing, yes.  "Doink" would seem to be push rods.  Something hitting metal.
