1985 Fiero for parts
« on: December 02, 2019, 11:10:14 pm »
Some of you know that I started a dune buggy project a few years back. A couple of years ago I blew the clutch and gave up on the project.  I ran the engine every couple of weeks until about a year ago.  One day while cranking it something under the dash started smoking and I never tried again. I started stripping it to sell parts but I am not good at that so now I want to give some of it or all of it away before I send it to the junk yard.  Most of the dash instruments are gone.
 Fierofool will post a couple of pics for me.  It has 16" Toyota wheels that have no curb rash or corrosion that I can see.  The tires are dry rotted but hold air and the car is rollable to put on a trailer or dolly.  if someone just wants the wheels they can bring 3 wheels and tires that will fit.  I have the spare that came with the car.
The engine is a 2.8 bored to 3.1 with 3.1 heads, roller cam, headers and other goodies.  I believe the tranny is Isuzu as the shift cables come over the engine.
The interior is in bad shape.
So if someone want parts of it or all of it, come and get it.  I live in Tamassee SC a couple of hours out of Atlanta on Hwy 11, 1/2 hour off of   I 85.

Other than the wheels, engine, and transmission, what else is good on it?

Everything under the front hood, radiator overflow tank, W/S washer tank etc. should all be OK.   Headlights were working.  Front bumper is destroyed.  The back end was hit by a concrete truck before I bought it so the cradle is bent and so is the frame.  I put another A frame on the damaged side and re aligned the wheel so I could drive it on the road.
The paint on the body was about 1/8" thick and someone did it poorly so it is all peeling off.
I am sending a couple of pictures to Charlie to post.

Harry,
Does the engine have iron heads (like the Fiero)? Or the later aluminum heads?

If I recall correctly, this is the car that came from Auburn.  I remember about getting hit by the concrete truck right after the owner had it painted.  Warren Carlsrud was the owner.

Charlie, I was thinking that you might be able to use that 3.1, if it had the iron heads.

Edit - The pics weren't up, before. I remember that car.
That looks like an iron head engine.

Radar;
My magnet says they are iron heads.
Fierofool;
You are correct on the previous owner, as I still have the title in his name.  I never registered the car.
The car ran about a year ago so I would guess the fuel pump and tank are OK.

I've already committed to taking an engine that Paul Angel has.  I'd love to have the engine, but I'd have to buy another car to put it into.

Did someone put a fastback GT body on it? 4 speed or 5 speed? Any power accessories? Are you sure the clutch is bad and not the hydraulics?

I've seen the car when it was in one piece. It's an 85 GT that was converted to a fastback.
Based upon the shifter cables, it appears to be an Isuzu trans, as Harry said.

ScottB;
Someone did put a GT rear body on it.  The tranny is a 5 speed.  I got on it at a stop and it made a loud noise like metal breaking and stopped moving.  The pedal did not feel right and it would not move so I towed it home and gave up on it.
It has power windows, mirrors and cruise but I sold all the switches.

I guess no one wants anything off this Fiero so I will send it off to the scrap yard next week.

Scott and I have talked about it.  Problem is that I won't have the time until after the 1st.  I'll pm you tonight when I get home.
