Possible fuel leak sources?
« on: June 23, 2020, 06:34:20 pm »
I smell fuel when the engine is running.  I checked the schrader valve.  Dry.  Checked the FPR.  Dry.  Checked the vacuum lines.  No fuel.  Checked the hoses and lines.  Dry.  Checked at the fuel tank.  Dry.  Not seeing fuel.  Where to check, next?

Use a length of 5/16 hose and insert it between the runners of the upper intake.  Put one end to your nostrils and sniff.  It could be a leaky O-ring on an injector.  Next place is at the fuel line disconnect down below the right deck lid hinge.

I was smelling raw gas all day Saturday, but never found the source.  Whenever I filled up, there was a little puddle of gasoline trapped at the filler.  I attribute that to some hard right turns somewhere along the way.  On the 87 and 88, the vapor canister underneath the right rear fender could also be a source.  Those are the easy ones without getting underneath the car.

Next, underneath would be fuel filter connections, and hose to tank connections.  The 5/16 hose would be handy in trying to sniff the top of the tank at the sending unit.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Good at the sending unit.  I was afraid you were hoing to say something about the injectors.
