2009 Polar Bear Run

Kevin, I'm leaving my house about 7:30.  Going to meet Ray down on Sugarloaf.  There's a little pulloff on the right side just past the college going toward Discover Mills.  Should be down there around 8 or so.  They'll have the drivers meeting sometime after 9 to let everyone get their GPS's programmed and take a last pit stop.

Pat, if you'd like to meet us there, just look for Ray's car on the right before you get to Hwy 120. 

Talked to Kim and some of the Kappa folks will be there, too. 

Seth, I have an empty seat.  If you can get up to the starting point, you're welcome if you'd like to ride along.  I'll be returning as soon as we get there and won't be touring the Gardens.  I plan to come back across Hwy 140 through Canton and can continue to Roswell if needed.  Hwy 140 begins at Mansell and Alpharetta Hwy.

charlie,  if you want a cool ride on the way back, take 140 towards canton as planned, when you get to hwy 411 turn north (left) and go maybe 4 miles until you see salacoa road on your right turn right and take salacoa road for about 11 miles and it runs back into 140 just before waleska and then straight into canton as planned. that 11 mile stretch like a small tail of the dragon, really fun, even has a one lane bridge which sometimes can be exciting as immediately before is a 90 degree turn! its really not far out of the way and puts you right back on the road you were on before you before turned to 411. when you come back to 140 if you turned right instead of left you are only about a mile where turn into tom greens neighborhood.    if you,ve got the time give it a try you won't be sorry.

Cold as it could be in the morning.  Icy spots on the roads, but there were those brave souls who turned out in their cars without tops, and they made the run.  MG's Sprites, Morgans and others.  I'll try to post a few pictures this afternoon. 

Dewey, we took Salacoa Road on the way back.  Took it easy, though.  Man, you can get in trouble real quick on that road.  I didn't realize it, but I'd been on that road from the lower end up to the big farm in the valley when I was looking for Tom, a year or so back.

so the salacoa road detour was worth a few extra minutes? i think its fun, i sometimes take it in the company van thats real exciting. so tell me about the little white roadster with the bugeyes. also how was that opel gt, that looks pretty cool. i know where theres a opel gt thats just short of a basket case. after seeing that orange one i wouldn't mind trying to fix up one of those, lol, no chance with my wife. wish i had been there. who were the members who went?

Yep, a bug-eyed Austin Healey Sprite. (And actually, a roadster, not a convertible).
