A pair of my favorite pants
« on: August 15, 2020, 03:22:19 pm »
I bought these pants prior to 1998.  1998 was the year the store from which I purchased these pants closed.  This is one of my last remaining pairs of pants from there.  This pair fit me, so I wore it often, and this pair was one of my favorites.  Over time, the material got thin, and tore easily, so it moved from my "nice pants" selection to my "work pants" selection.  Work pants get whatever treatment they get.  This pair was worn when I painted my house, through much car work, through re-roofing the house, and many other tasks.  Recently, it was work for working on some vehicles.

Last year, after I did a bunch of work while wearing these pants, I took the kids to KFC to eat, but just washed up my face, hands, and arms.  There was a homeless guy there, who sat nearby and spoke with us.  He kept making comments about not knowing how it was possible to do...something or other I couldn't catch.  After a while, I figured out that he thought we were homeless.  Apparently, the pants were no longer suitable to wear in public.  So, they haven't been worn much, since then, until a few weeks ago.

The material is so thin, it tears easily, and it's hard to avoid tearing the material, just putting the pants on or taking them off.  So, it may be time to retire them.  All things considered, I'm reluctant to let them go, but the the guy whose house hosts the recent Fiero work party suggested that maybe he should buy me a pair of pants.  After working on something, I stood up, and there was a small tear under one of the rear pockets.

I know people pay a lot of money for pants that look like this, so maybe I should offer these for sale, first come, first served.  In the case of this pair of pants, their wear came honestly.  These pants have a butt that actually fits me, and legs that fit me, and a waist that fits me.  It's not that often that I find pants with a 28" waist, 32" inseam, and room for both my butt and my legs.  Most pants now that fit my legs are apparently made for waists greater than 48".  As for the butt, apparently, people don't have a butt, anymore.  Pants are just flat in that area, which leaves a big gap between my actual back and the waist on the pants.
