Anyone use Pulstar plugs?
« on: November 22, 2020, 10:17:44 am »

I want to keep my Fiero "looking" original but performing better.  Adding a 7730 ECM, 1.6 rockers, port matching the intake, and keyless entry doesn't detract from the "look".  Either would a 3.4L, but that's way outside my skill level.

Pulstar plugs, reviewed here: https://www.ericpetersautos.com/2020/11/20/plug-n-play/ and for sale here: https://pulstar.com/ should add a very few HP.

Has anyone tried them?  Anyone even hear about them?

No, and no, for me, but I do wonder how the '7730 would like that.

It seems that someone recently mentioned replacing their plugs.  Dunno what they used.

I wonder how the '7730 would like it too.

My plugs are new this year, and as a frugal Fiero owner -- is there another type? -- the replacement won't happen for awhile.  Still curious though.  Any idea where I can find info on how the '7730 would like the new plugs?  Other than Pulstar.

By the way, thanks a lot for bringing this up.  $16 per plug!  I thought I had finished spending money on my Fiero, this year.

I have no idea how much the plugs in my Fiero now cost.

I don't recall.  Do you have DIS?

A few things I think one could look at for choice of plugs is what was used in the vehicle the 7730 came from, and what was used in the engine in the car.  Lots of people have said that the stock Fiero ECM doesn't like plugs that weren't installed from the factory.  Brand, heat range, etc.

For instance, my 7730 came from a 3.1 Beretta.  The engine from a 94 Camaro.  I'm still running the stock 87 ECM with the distributor, so I'm running the plugs recommended for a 2.8.

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

True, but, until someone tries, it's all academic.

Coil packs, or a distributor?

I tried Pulstar plugs in my 88 duke some time ago. When the engine was cold, they worked OK, but as soon as it warmed up, performance was very poor. Not recommended, at least for that application.

Interesting...and the '88 Duke uses DIS.
