Refurbshing Wheel Center Caps

If your lace wheel center caps are dingy and tarnished, they can be easily refurbished.  This is what I did. 

Using a Chore Boy pad or a glass cooktop Scotchbrite cleaning pad, I applied some stainless steel cookware cleaner. 


After wetting the cap, using circular motions, I removed the tarnish, as well as the faded Fiero logo.  Took about 2 minutes per center cap.


Once you have it nice and clean, follow the instructions on the can and apply some Aluminum Clearcoat to protect them.


You can leave them blank, or when they are dry, if you wish, you can apply Rodney Dickman's wheel center cap stickers to replace the original logo, or get the inlaid decals.

Short does beat done. Plus pretty photos are worth 1000+ words and fill space nicely.

Are those caps aluminum?  I had thought they were plastic.

I think the difference is the wheels themselves, I know the center caps on the 14 inch wheels are plastic. Charlie mentioned lace wheels in the beginning. Apparently those caps are metal

The certer caps all appear to be the same.

As Charlie showed me today, if you look closely at the center caps you can see they are clad with a metal skin. Metal looks good when it is polished.

I have a NOS set, somewhere.  I also have a set from TFS, a set from another '88, and a set from an '86.  I have several sets from ebay.  If I can find them, I'll compare.
