New Meeting Location
« on: April 11, 2021, 11:21:07 pm »
This thread is to discuss the necessity of a new meeting location.  Our club size has grown to exceed the capacity that can be compensated at the Duluth Diner.  Wait times for enough seats to be combined for our group size and the busy crowds that frequent the establishment may become a burden in the near future.  I am open to suggestions of other establishments close to the area we are accustomed to attending.  The Dairy Queen close to the diner has been suggested.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Can the DQ accommodate the crowd?

IHOP has always been group friendly. There is one not far from the Dinner. Actually it may be more convenient since it’s off a major expressway. It’s at 85 and pleasant hill. Most IHOP’s have a group area. Plus ihop offers a wide range of food. Thoughts???

I moved this to the public forum as I know some have trouble with the paid member side.

There was also the BBQ place that invited us.

Will the meeting size be 14 or so people, going forward?

I would suggest being cautious with the IHOP mentioned.  The area is experiencing more and more crime with a recent murder in the adjacent strip mall parking lot.

I think that whatever is chosen, should have a wide selection on the menu and not be a specialty restaurant like Mexican, Chinese, Seafood, Steakhouse, or BBQ and that it be closer to the perimeter.  Larry may know of something in the area since he's near Peachtree Industrial and I-285.

Over the years we have met at locations along I-285 ranging from Roswell Road to Chamblee Tucker Road and they all seemed to work out well.

May I suggest using http://www.geomidpoint.com/meet/ to find a midpoint of most likely meeting attendees?

I like this. Would you mind taking it on? Have everyone PM you their address.

I can't get the link to work.  It says "This page can't load Google Maps correctly", and "For Development Purposes Only."

Do you have to put in an actual address or just a city?

Edit:  I found the answer.  These are the cities where most come from, in the proper format.  You can cut and paste into the website.

Auburn, GA
Cumming, GA
Roopville, GA
Fayetteville, GA
Powder Springs, GA
Carnesville, GA
Flowery Branch, GA
Cumming, GA
Marietta, GA
Kennesaw, GA
Blue Ridge, GA
Suwanee, GA
Dallas, GA
Augusta, GA
Chamblee, GA
Lawrenceville, GA

Cumming, GA            34.2073196,-84.1401926
Dallas, GA                 33.9237141,-84.8407732
Fayetteville, GA          33.4487257,-84.4549262

Kennesaw, GA            34.0234337,-84.6154897
Lawrenceville, GA       33.9562149,-83.9879625
Marietta, GA               33.9528472,-84.5496148
Powder Springs, GA    33.8595492,-84.683824
Roopville, GA             33.4565021,-85.1307779
Suwanee, GA             34.0514898,-84.0712997

Cumming, GA is listed twice.  I believe the website 'weights' a location if it is entered more than once. Are two members coming from Cumming or is this a misprint?

So, using the website from before and the listed info above, the midpoint is:
Latitude: 33.9947062
Longitude: -84.137517
Which is 3081 Governors Ave, Duluth, GA 30096

Removing that slacker in Augusta makes the midpoint:
Latitude: 34.0282685
Longitude: -84.2826066
Which is: 4041 Roxburgh Dr, Roswell, GA 30076

Additionally, removing the extra Cumming entry makes the midpoint:
Latitude: 34.0154724
Longitude: -84.2927563
Which is:  A very pretty waterfall without an address is Roswell, GA somewhere in/near the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Your last calculation without the 2nd Cumming entry would be closest, so it seems Roswell is most centrally located.

Interesting that Duluth was one of the possible midpoints, and Roswell (35 minutes' drive West) another midpoint.  So, the meeting location wasn't that far off.
