87 GT (not running or drivable) project has to go
« on: June 08, 2021, 10:00:12 pm »
Hi folks,
I am in the Dallas/Hiram area and have an 87 GT project car that needs to go. I was in the process of upgrading to the Camaro motor when medical issues prevented me from working on it. It is possible to be made into a working car, just not by me.

The cradle has been removed and is sitting in my garage on a cheap dolly with the transaxle and shock towers still attached. The block is on an engine stand and has been machined for a rebuild. The original flexplate has also been matched to the crank. The rear of the car is on jack stands. Front wheels are in place. I did not order the motor rebuild kit after machining so the journals will need to be measured for bearing size. I may have the machining spec sheet from Goza Machine in Alatoona.

It is dark so I can't get any decent pictures right now. I will post some tomorrow.

I'm not sure how to move it without damage but it is up for grabs. I do not want money. I just need it gone quickly. I am even fine with someone taking it to part it out.

Think this might be a suitable project for working with the high school automotive class?
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I think it might be a pretty complicated project for a HS due to how dismantled it is.

I'm digging the cradle/transaxle and the engine mount out of my Empire of Dirt this evening and tomorrow. The (harbor frightening) engine stand is included with the car (no money).

I'll have some pictures of the cradle and motor tomorrow. Sorry this is coming in drips. I am torn between getting this taken care, the storms, and my work schedule.

I can take video calls and have you walk me around instead of driving. No zoom; VNC, Teams or Webex are fine.

I'm going to get the hoist from down the hill tomorrow (my hoist and hill). The cradle/subframe is fine and can be installed with 4 bolts. I'm just medically incapable of moving the subframe.

edit: I meant no to zoom. VNC, Teams and Webex are OK.

If soon includes after July 1 I will have space for it at the new place and it is on Dallas HWY by Douglasville so an easy hop for me.

That sounds great NoMad. Wreck has first dibs but you are definitely on the list.

Paulding CTY Marshal J came out for a follow up yesterday and was happy to hear there was some interest. He was a member here many years ago and a lot of you helped him move all of his '88 parts when he couldn't climb into it anymore.

He gave me two weeks but I am 80% sure I can hold out until at least July 10th if needed. I'm willing to pay a bit of fines to reach that date if we can get it saved.

Ya, if it needs a place I will be able to when the houses closes without issue.

Ok gents! I spoke with gasmaster today. I’ll be taking on this project!

NoMad, if you are still cool with it, once you get the shop all settled are you still cool if I store it there while I work on it and get it back on the road? Once it is road worthy, it will come and get store in our garage while I start the full restore of it.

Wreck it Ralph, thx for pointing me in this direction!

And anyone willing to help get everything loaded up and transported let me know!

Nomad , if you need help with the move or setup please let us know. I think quite a few of us have trailers. “Will work for shop space” 😂
