RFTH 29 Postponed
« on: September 24, 2024, 06:45:41 pm »
The forecast is rapidly changing for the area and in consideration of everyone's safety and enjoyment, we are postponing the event until the 18th, 19, and 20th of October.  New hotel arrangements will be set up for us.  Please call the hotel and cancel your reservations for September 27-29.

3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I wasn't going to be able to make it this weekend, but I actually should be able to do it on the rescheduled weekend.

That's good. We also have 2 new couples that are rescheduling. I'll set up new hotel and restaurant arrangements and post them on Georgia Fieros and Pennocks.

Even though the weather cleared in the area of our intended Run For The Hills, in the end, it was a good decision to postpone the event.  I have been trying to reach our evening dinner restaurant since Thursday.

Graff's Tavern is only about one block from the river that passes through Franklin.  I fear that they have suffered damage.  NCDOT has warned that all roads in Western North Carolina should be considered closed.

I will try to either do a scouting run before the rescheduled date or obtain road information from some of the locals before the rescheduled date.  I would welcome anyone to come along on that trip.  Maybe the weekend of October 5.

I'm thinking that the situation may be worse than we imagine.

I'm guessing you saw my post in the other section.

Yes, I did.  We have been through and even stayed in some of those areas on our yearly RFTH's.

Graff's Tavern website says they will re-open today at 4pm.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

They still aren't answering their phone at 5:45 pm.  I've made contact with some people in the area of The Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway.  They didn't know if they were open but they had high winds and said there were trees down in the region.

Our first road, Wayah Depot Road, had some damage. There are several streams and bridges along that road.

Graffs Tavern phone is out of service.
Hwy 129 into Robbinsville is closed.
The Skyway is open.
The Dragon has lots of problems.  Flagged traffic control.
US 441 between Cherokee and Gatlinburg is closed.
