Passenter footwell light.
« on: November 30, 2024, 05:36:22 pm »
I went down to start The Fiero and the battery was flat.  When I hooked up the charger, the little light above the passengers feet came on.  Both doors were closed.  I pushed the plungers in and out on both door jambs but they would not go out so I pulled out the bulb.  What makes that light go on?

Make sure the dimmer wheel is not clicked into the "inside light" position.
That's just my first guess. If that's not the case, some Fieros (through 85, anyway) had a button in the overhead that would turn on the center map lights. (And maybe the footwell lights?)

Barring all that, I have seen strange "alternate paths" - especially in GM cars - happen when fuses are blown. Is there anything else that is not working? Radio memory? Lighter? Trunk light?
All SWAGs, admittedly.

I tried the dimmer wheel earlier but it stayed on.  It was dark in the barn and I forgot about the overhead switchs.  I will check them tomorrow. I will also check for things not working.

The early Fiero overhead console had three switches.  A left and right for respective map lights, and a center switch that might have turned on all three lights, but at least the center light in the overhead console.  I don't remember if it turned on the footwell courtesy lights, or not.  It was only an 84 and 85 thing.  I remember both my 85's having the three switch panel.  My 86 and 87 only have two switches so probably your 88 will, too.

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

You're right. When I was typing, I didn't realize what year Harry's car was. So yeah... probably no middle switch.
