I know this is nothing like what you guys are experiencing but a lifetime ago I worked in Chattanooga and lived on Signal Mountain. Being from southeast Louisiana I wanted to experience a true winter or two with some snow. I loved it on Signal but after spending a long weekend back in New Orleans I returned to my log cabin apartment late on a Sunday night only to find the water in the toilet bowl had frozen solid. I moved back to New Orleans 4 months later!

A similar story here. My wife was from Massachusetts and we lined in Atlanta for two and a half years when we got married, then we moved to Massachusetts.

We lived there until a blizzard dropped between 3 and 6 feet of snow and shut down our highways for a solid week. She decided we should move back to Georgia.

We actually kept our lights on, for the duration. I was very surprised.
We had 3-4" of snow. Rome apparently only got 1"

Weather dot com is predicting snow showers for my area, Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. With a low near 20, and a high of 33.
We may be in for "Snowpocalypse - The Sequel". Or not.

Edit... They've changed the forecast since yesterday.
Now it's PM snow showers, Tuesday night, with a low of 15.
AM ice, Friday morning, with a low of 29.

So we might still get a chance to sit in the dark.

It's the same forecast out here, depending on what station you watch. 

The city is serviced by both Georgia Power and Jackson EMC.  In Barrow, there were only about 1000 customers who lost power during the last storm.  The boundary of the electric services are only less than 1/4 mile from me.  The Georgia Power side lost power in some areas of town for a little better than 4 hours.  I don't know if that was within the city proper or within the postal zone for Auburn, which is pretty widespread.  Auburn only has 7 miles of streets.  My power blinked a couple of times.  Similar if you blinked your eyes. 

There were only a few trees down within the city limits and not many limbs, so the problem was likely on some of the feed lines coming into our area.  Walton EMC had more than 5000 customers without power.  My daughter lost power for about 5 hours as I recall.

Thanks for the offer! Y'all can do the same. But it's a long drive in the snow or especially on ice.
But we also have a generator. It hasn't been tested "under fire" yet, but it should do okay.

It would be a heck of a return trip after the storm.  The predicted track looks like it's coming up the I-85 corridor. Hope it doesn't come to a standstill in Atlanta like traffic does.

And Carrollton/Roopville got... zip. Nada. Bupkis. Just flurries.
But it's colder than a witch's brass monkey. Was 14 degrees when I looked at the thermometer, early this morning. 
Newnan and Franklin (ten minutes south of us) got clobbered, however. It's like the Ice Road Follies.

The good and the bad when snow falls in New Orleans.

The good:  There are no rolling hills as we have in Georgia to try to climb or try to stop when going down on sheets of ice and snow.

The bad: There are no rolling hills as we have in Georgia to slide down on sheets of cardboard.

...annnnd here we go again.
Sitting here, about 15 minutes from the Alabama line, so we're going to be looking the storm right in the teeth.
I've been working most of the afternoon to put all the lightweight stuff away, and park the lightweight vehicles (like the box trailer) on the "leeward" side of the shop.
Looks like it's gonna be fun. Not.

We did. No damage at all.
At one point, there was a tornado to the northwest of Roanoke AL, that was headed straight for us. We went and hid in our center-most bedroom, with all the dogs.
At about 1 AM, it just dissipated at the state line. I told Tammy to go back to bed, and I stayed up and watched the weather radar and listened to the TV coverage until everything had passed. I finally went to bed at ~3 AM.
I'm mostly caught up on my sleep, now.

How did you do? I figure it was probably 4-5 AM by the time it made it out that way.
