88 3.4 coupe with IRM whale tail. Full Formula treatment.
« on: July 20, 2010, 03:39:41 pm »
88 Fiero coupe with full Formula conversion including instrumentation, drivetrain and suspension w/ rear sway bar. Everything but the VIN.
Has Grooms 3.4 shortblock with custom ported heads and lower intake. ($800 worth of just head work.)
Trueleo intake and Darrell Morse throttle body.
Crane H-272 cam. (Probably the "fattest" cam that will fit in this engine without extensive head work.)
19lb. Bosch injectors
FOCOA headers.
Getrag 5 speed rebuilt by Mantrans. Shifts fine. No noises. Only a few thousand miles.
SPEC clutch.
Newer clutch master and slave cylinders. Installed with tranny.
A/C.
Power windows.
Tilt wheel and delay wipers.
Trunk popper.
Mr. Mikes leather.
New headliner and visors.
Fiero Store glove box.
Plush Fiero Store floor mats.
Delco CD player with EQ from mid 90s(?) Pontiac. Looks just like stock Fiero radio.
Wiring for MP3 player.
Fairly new cat and Ocelot exhaust. GT tips. (Sounds nice with the cam. :D )
Has Fiero Warehouse whale tail.
Has clear headlight housings with replaceable halogen bulbs. Better than even Silverstars.
Could use paint, but it doesn't look bad.
ECM has been relocated to inside firewal behind passenger seat.
The 5 spoke wheels are already spoken for. The car will include the polished and dark gray repainted stock 88 Formula wheels (pictured in the first and second photos below.)

The bad?
The upper surfaces, particularly the hood, could stand to be repainted.
The piping on the drivers seat is kind of worn.
The reverse lights don't work. This is part of the tranny linkage. The wiring and switch are both good.
Has a crack in the right front fender. I have a replacement '88 red fender. Just hasn't been enough of an issue to change it.
There's a dent in the drivers side floor pan. I was doing a gravity bleed on the clutch and jacked it in the wrong place. It doesn't really hurt anything, but it's definitely a WTF moment.

I built this car to be reliable.
I would be comfortable jumping in and driving it anywhere.
Southern car. Garaged for most of its life.
Zero rust.
Carfax will show a minor off-road excursion. Happened before I bought it.

My asking price is $3500.

For full price I will include:
A complete fastback conversion, including the clip, decklid, tail lights, D-plates, grilles and harness.
A *perfect* hood. It's black in color but the finish is flawless and shiny as glass. Came off of a low mile Formula that got a "norms front end" treatment.
A pair of Fiero Warehouse IMSA side scoops, similar to the ones on my gray car.
I'll throw in a short shifter that Fieroguru (from Pennocks) made. Was too short for me.

I will include a bad Getrag that can be used for parts, if any are required to fix the reverse lights issue.

I will also consider trade for 1st gen ('82-'93) S10 with V6 and extended cab only. +/- Cash.

Why am I selling?
My gray 4.9 was too spendy for most folks.
We're armpit-deep in cars. I need to thin the herd, and I also need a truck.
If my other car sells, I will keep this one. Gotta have at least one Fiero. :D

These are the wheels that will come with the car.

The engine is much the same. Not quite as clean, though.

Some of the porting work.

Too many vehicles?  Is that possible?  I'm down to 7 in the family.  So, you no longer have your S-10?  I hate to see you sell anything.  Good luck on sellling either car-they're both VERY NICE vehicles!

Thanks Tom.

Yeah. I sold the Sonoma.
As soon as I did, I immediately came up with three things that I needed a truck for.

Between just Tammy and me we have six vehicles.

My son has my S-10 with him at school down in Marietta.   About once a week I can think of something that I need that truck for.  I'm resto-modding a 53 F100, but it will be another year before it's on the road.  I think you need a truck with a SBC in it!

Steve, can you get some pictures up of both cars?  I had someone stop by last night who was looking for a Fiero.  I told them to come on here to see if you had pics up, yet.

I gave them one of our club cards and told them to check our website.  I always do that when I first meet a new Fiero person.  Later they can go to Pennocks.  I want them to find out that they can get good solid support locally.  I think that if they are sent off to PFF, they don't develop interest or knowledge of local clubs.

Tom and Charlie...
Thanks for the mention.

I added pics and additional info above.

Pics of the gray fastback are in my other thread.
That car is no longer advertised on Pennocks.

Car is sold, pending deposit.

Dewey,
I'm really looking for something decent.
No body damage or rust.
Faded paint is okay. Almost expected on something that old.
My only real requirements are that it be a 1st gen. The square body.
Extended cab. 2wd. V6 (2.8 or 4.3 - doesn't matter) and air - working or not.
If it's exceptionally nice otherwise, I'll even consider replacing a blown engine.
S10, S15, Sonoma. All the same.

Thanks!

Don told me about your new toy. Sounds like you did well.
I would have liked to come up with Don, but somebody didn't call me... :D

steve , to tell you the truth don and i had talked about him going with me to pick up the car but he had doctors appointments and couldn't make it. so he said he would have to come up and take a look at it. then last saturday morning i got a call, it was don and he said i'm on my way and i'll be there in a little while, lol. so no time to think about calling anybody. i had seen two s-10's around here (RED) for sale, i went and checked them out yesterday and they were both gone. i know where theres a s-10 reg cab owned by a old man (invalid) but last time i talked to him he said he thought he would keep it awhile. it was faded red with some dings and scratches (project) and old tags on it. i guess he doesn't drive any more. i'll keep my eyes open for one.

Thanks Dewey.
Please don't go to any trouble. There are quite a few of them on Craigslist.
I'm not married to the S10 idea either. If I see a nice V8 Dakota or even an old full size Dodge (Pre 94) I might jump on it.
I've let several nice ones get away. Just didn't "feel right".

I was just messing with ya' about coming up there last weekend.
Don and I had briefly discussed it. We had talked about me riding up there with him, but I also said that I wanted to sleep in - at least until 9:00.
He was probably there before I was even awake.

Hey, I know where there's a 97 Dakota Club Cab with a 318, towing, cooling and electric package, power windows, cruise, steering, AC, auto, tilt, bed liner that the owner might just swap for a Formula Fastback with a 4.9 V8   ;D ::)
