Sorry. I forgot all about this thread. Pat, yours was good. Thanks for the offer, Steve.
I stopped on the way back from Pat's to get the alternator tested and a new belt just for good measure. Advance didn't have belts for the 88 duke. Finally had time on Friday afternoon to put it on. Spent a good 5 hours calling AC Delco, O'Rielly, US Auto Parts and running to parts stores for belts. Everyone that had one in stock miraculously didn't have it when i got there. The worse of all was AutoZone.
When I called, I had to tell the guy repeatedly what car, engine, year, AC, and he finally told me he had the Goodyear Gatorback in stock. Got there and they don't sell Goodyear, BUT they sell Dayco, AND they'd have to order it. Told him quite loudly to not expect me to come back to his store again.
Finally found a Gates belt at NAPA. Went to put the alternator on and noticed the old belt was frayed on the edges. Started counting ribs on pulleys. I have at least one of each a 4 rib, a 5 rib and a 6 rib pulley. 5 on the alternator, 4 on the water pump and 6 on the crank and AC. So I just put the old one back on.
I think the easiest way to resolve the pulley problem is to change the water pump and install a 5 groove pulley on it.
Hey, TheDon.
