Run For The Hills #16
« on: March 30, 2011, 10:38:27 pm »
I have heard nothing about RFTH 16 yet...and I am starting to worry after some of the events of the past year.  Are there any plans yet?  I look forward to this run each year (although I have only been to the last two) and really don't want it to die.

If nobody else is intending on planning one, then the North Carolina crew (Savet, Fierfly and myself) are interested in taking over the planning.  I would prefer to simply enjoy the spoils of someone else's work like I have done the past couple years...but will do what I have to in order to insure that this event doesn't die.

I wouldn't let him.....he shot down my idea for a "hello kitty" theme this year.

On a serious note, I'd be happy to help with scouting the route or any other aspects that would make planning easier.

TheDon and I were talking about this a couple of days ago.  We're just waiting on someone to tell us where they want to hold it this year.  You guys and a few down here are ready to go scouting.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Without having done any scouting yet, and looking at google maps....this area looks particularly fun

lol,
FieroFool and I were just talking about basing it in Helen, which would be right there in the south of that region, but there were some caveats to it, so we might address that when we meet this evening.

A concern FieroFool brought up yesterday evening is the quality of the roads in the backwoods area of Helen.
Has anybody been out there recently?

The wife and I plan on taking a scouting/shopping trip (My wife is getting home-sick, so we need to stock up on German products  ;D) out there 2 weeks from now to scope things out.

But we are still open to other suggestions for the base.

Anybody want to ride out there with us?

Ironically, I plan to be in Georgia that weekend....but I'll be working on Elise fiberglass.  The weekend after that is tentatively free though, so if you guys let me know where you go, I can try some related routes and verify consistency.

Well, Helen "IS" in Georgia.  ;D

Don't know if my boss can hold off that long without stocking up on German goodies, I'll have to confirm.

OK, FieroFool has plotted an interim route for RFTH # 16 north of Helen, albeit incomplete, but it's a work-in-progress
My wife and I will be going up there the weekend of the 16th this month, to scout/scope it out.

Any Tag-Alongs?

After completely and totally wasting this last weekend, the route-scout Noth of Helen is back on for next weekend.

Again I ask: Anybody interested in coming along and maybe helping?

I believe the forecast is for rain this Saturday.  I wouldn't get too locked in on the Helen area.  They haven't told me where they want the run, yet.  Helen would be difficult to get a good run without a lot of long straight roads between sections of twisties.
