I am familiar with driving several different manual transmissions. I have driven the standard H, the 3-speed, 4 on the tree, 3 on the tree, hydraullic clutch, slap shift, a 2-speed, a 10-speed dual-shift, a 3 inline on the floor, several pseudo manuals, as well as commercial vehicles with a 2-speed rear end. I'm sure there are others I've driven.
Leaving one's foot on the clutch or hand on the shifter is generally bad. Of course, for applications where the engine and transmission will be rebuilt every few hundred miles, you may get away with it.
